hey neighbor!

my name is Johnny DeMaagd; I was born and raised in Barry County, MI, received my degree in sociology and chemistry from Hope College in 2019, and now I'm back in Barry-and thriving. I wear many hats, but I hope to meet you soon, if I haven't already.

in November of 2018 I opened Left Field Coffee Co. in middleville, mi and since then, i've had opportunities to connect with amazing people from Barry. we share some favorite local pastimes: hiking through our local trails, sipping on local brews and gin cocktails, and enjoying the natural beauty of the sunsets over the tree lines. however, I've also heard stories from countless people who are hurting: from people my age struggling to find affordable housing, the sheer lack of broadband access for everyone, and the intolerable discrimination due to race, gender identity, and sexual orientation that happens in our community.

I love serving coffee, but I can only change so much while wearing a barista's apron. in addition to being a community advocate through my work at Left Field Coffee, I also sit on the Thornapple Area Enrichment Foundation Board, Barry Community Foundation, and am a member of the Hastings Rotary Club.
